Alfred L. "Duke" Menditto

Alfred L. "Duke" Menditto, 89, of Erie, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at LECOM at Presque Isle. He was born August 13, 1926 in Erie, a son of the late Peter and Carmella Marinaccio Menditto.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and proudly worked for the United States Postal Service as a mailman for 35 years.

Duke loved horses and enjoyed going to the horse track with his buddy Mick. He was a devoted husband.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda M. Sementelli Menditto; three brothers, Generose Miano, Dan Miano and Tony Menditto; and three sisters, Mary "Dunn" Mazza, Lucy Marucci, and Kay Pruveadenti.

He is survived by one daughter, Diane Thompson of Erie; two sons, Peter J. Menditto (Bonnie) of Erie and Anthony A. Menditto of Columbia, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson (Amy), Michelle Menditto, Michael Menditto (Heather), Mary Goss (Travis) and Teresa Menditto. Also survived by six great-grandchildren, Gray, Ayden, Nathan, Charlotte, Paul and Chris; and many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Chloe.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, on Thursday at 11 a.m. Entombment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
