Dolores A. Ricci

Dolores (Nan) A Ricci,90, a resident of Sarah A Reed Retirement Center, died January 20, 2013. She was born in Erie January 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Michael & Caroline (Miller) Ricci. She was a former resident of West 27th Street and Meadow Drive in Millcreek.

She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Dolores known to many as Dorrie and her nieces and nephews as "Nan". She graduated from Academy High School in 1942 and St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She was employed by St. Vincent's Hospital as a private duty nurse and then spent many years as caregiver for her parents.

Dorrie enjoyed traveling through the country; her favorite spots to visit were Hawaii and New York. She enjoyed Broadway musicals and was an Erie Playhouse Season Ticket holder for many many years. Dorrie was always known to have a camera in hand, from the first 8mm to her VHS camera – she very rarely made it from behind the camera to be in her movies and photos. She was the keeper of the "time capsule" of our history – photos, newspaper clippings, cards and little notes left behind by her nieces and nephews for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael in 1991 and Caroline in 2003, and her brother-in-law Robert Herbstritt in 2006.

Survivors include her sister, Norma Herbstritt; her nephews, Robert (Phyllis), Richard (Patricia), Daniel and William Herbstritt; her niece Mary (Philip) DiMarco. Nan will be missed by her great nieces and nephews: Cara, Stephen, Richard (Kelly) Herbstritt, Cassandra (Luke) Hawley, Anthony (Valerie Lesser) DiMarco, Michael, Kamran, Laura, Danielle and Jewel Herbstritt; and several great-great nieces.

The family would like thank the staff at Sarah A Reed Retirement Center for their caring hearts.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday morning from 9AM to until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11AM. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
