Dr. Frank J. "Doc" Taylor, age 80, of Fairview, PA, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Saint Vincent Health Center. He was born January 18, 1935 in Erie, a son of the late Frank and Mary Lucas Takach.

He was a graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, Gannon College and University of Pittsburgh Dental School. He served in the United States Army as a dentist and competitive target shooter.

After serving in the Army, he dedicated his professional life to the field of dentistry. He deeply cared about each of his patients and spent years growing a successful and loyal practice.

His talent was as an athlete, spending much of his free time at Kahkwa Country Club. He was ranked nationally in tennis and played competitively well into his 60's. His love for golf, the club and his golf buddies continued until his death.

His true passion was as a skilled outdoorsman. He found peace in the solitude of nature and spent countless hours in the woods and mountains where he would hunt and track.

His ultimate dedication was to Mary Jane, his best friend and wife of 50 years, as well as to his children, family and good friends. He was always willing to go the extra mile to help and give his support in times of need. His strong Catholic faith was evident in his daily practice. He was a proud and humble parishioner of St. Stephen Church of Hungary.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Foht Taylor of Fairview, PA; one daughter Virginia C. Taylor of Delray Beach, FL; four sons , John C. Taylor and Sean P.C. Taylor (Melissa), of Erie; Michael C. Taylor (Brittany), New Castle, CO; and Charles C. Taylor, Snowmass Village, CO; one brother, Robert Takach (Beverly) of Erie; and one sister, Mary Jane Welch (Ronald), Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Remie, Breckin and Grayson and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 1237 West 21st Street, on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
