Helen DiPlacido

Helen "Lola" Bruno DiPlacido, 93, of Erie, passed away peacefully Friday, April 5, 2024 surrounded by her family at Sarah Reed Senior Center. She was born March 9, 1931 in Byrnedale, PA, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Pulice) Bruno.

Helen was raised in Byrnedale, PA, a daughter of a coal miner. She met, the love of her life, Nicola in 1952. They wed in 1954 and were married for 59 years.

Helen was employed at Continental Rubber Works, WT Grant, and Hills Department Store.

In her spare time, Lola could be found crocheting, completing crossword puzzles, cooking or baking, and gardening out in the yard with Nick. Of her many talents one of her greatest was the ability to bring her family together, whether it was a Christmas Eve feast or a regular Sunday dinner. She loved spending time with her family. Nonna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Nicola; seven brothers, Sam, James, Mario, Victor, Tom, Rudy, and Leo Bruno; three sisters, Florence Reider, Alvera Sidelinger, Margaret Fritz; childhood siblings Hazel and Antonio; and three infant siblings.

She is survived by her three sons, Frank D. DiPlacido (Michele Kerecman), Mario C. DiPlacido (Lori), and Nicola C. DiPlacido (Karen); four grandchildren, Mario DiPlacido (Corinne), Abbey DiPlacido (William), Nicola DiPlacido (Jenn), and Dayna Reibel (Jim); and Lindsey and Taylor Kerecman. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Elliot, Isabella, Nicola, and Valentina, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and may attend a Service there on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Stephen RC Church, 1237 West 21st Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
