Jack L. Giannelli

Jack L. Giannelli, age 78, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Saint Vincent Health Center after a brief illness. He was born September 6, 1934 in Erie, Pa. He was the son of the late Louis D. Giannelli and Helen Rose "Anna" Bernardini Giannelli.

He was a former Marine who served during the Korean War. He also served in the Naval Reserves.

Jack worked on the railroad, N.Y. Central, Penn Central and Conrail. He retired after 34 years as a Section Foreman.

Growing up Jack fished and hunted with his grandfather, and spent many hours bowling with his friends. Jack played baseball in the Koehler Brewery Alley on French Street. He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

Jack was an avid Civil War buff. He loved walking the battlefields and reading the books in his library. Jack loved turning his grandchildren on to any kind of history. He was deeply involved in Family Genealogy spending many hours searching out family history. He enjoyed painting ceramics and won many blue ribbons for his work.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol A. Sauerwine Giannelli. He had six children: Sandy Kiehlmeier, Tina Giannelli (Mike), Richard L. Giannelli (Sandra), Pamela Phillips (Jimmy), Annette Moore (John), and Anthony Giannelli (Lois). He had 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He loved all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all brought a smile to his face and he loved photographing them.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service at Calvary Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Anna Shelter, 1555 East Tenth Street, Erie, PA 16511.
