James L. Mack

James L. "Jim" Mack, 82, of Erie, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. He was born December 28, 1934 in Erie, a son of the late Ernest L. and Helen Ryder Mack.

Jim was a graduate of Academy High School and served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.

Jim was a State Farm Agent and later opened his own business, Erie Overhead Door Co., worked for various places, and ended his work career at Lake Shore Community Services.

Jim was an avid roller skater. He enjoyed his daily newspaper; reading it from beginning to end every day. He also enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, singing, playing his guitar, and in his later years he took up golf.

He was a member of the VFW Post #470, Siebenbuerger Club, Maennerchor Club, and Elks Lodge #67.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son James S. Mack; a brother Richard Fitzsimmons; and sister Ruth Fullerton.

He is survived by his companion, DeeDee Morrison of Erie; two daughters, Nancy A. Straub (fiance Doug Wagner) of Erie and Linda R. White (David "Jonesy") of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Scott J. Mack (Helen) of Zelienople, PA, Trisha J. Rosenthal (Gregory A.) of Waterford, PA, Troy J. Mack (Kelsey), Tanner J. White, Delaney R. Straub, and Dalton J. Straub all of Erie; and two great-grandchildren, Shay Rosenthal and Simon James Mack. He is also survived by his longtime friend, Shirley A. Gerbracht Mack of Erie and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church, 3801 West 38th Street, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1600 Peninsula Dr Suite 15, Erie, PA 16505.
