Jean Marie (Adiutori) DoNofrio, 87, of Erie, passed surrounded by her seven children on Monday, April 4, 2016, to everlasting life with her Lord and Savior and loving family members who have preceded her in death.

She was born Eugenia Marie Adiutori on June 10, 1928 in Erie. She was the daughter of the late Anthony Adiutori and Della Rose (Polito) Adiutori. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick V. DoNofrio on April 28, 1994 whom she married on June 20, 1948 in Erie, as well as her sisters Theresa Giammanco Altadonna, Laura Corsi, Ida Mikolajewski, and Agnes Warneka, and her brothers Vito (Shorty) Adiutori and Ernest Adiutori.

Devout Catholics and Christians, Jean and her husband Dominick were founding members of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church. Jean enjoyed going to Mass every morning for the past twenty plus years with her good friend Domenica Carbonelli at OLP, Blessed Sacrament Church, and Sacred Heart Church prior to Jean's failing health last March. She enjoyed waking in the early morning hours to read her Bible and to say prayers for all members of her nuclear and extended family as well as for friends and strangers for whom prayers were requested. Jean was also a frequent visitor at the Carmelite Monastery in Erie, PA.

Jean was a homemaker and loved the maternal mission that God had entrusted to her. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother which was her entire life. Known to all as "Nana", Jean's children and grandchildren learned the spiritual meaning of life including salvation and grace from her wise counseling and quiet actions. Jean also enjoyed her Italian heritage and was a volunteer and visitor at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church's annual Festival as well as the annual Giuseppe Mazzini Civic Association's Italian-Day Festival at Waldameer Park. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, baking fudge and pizzelles, and having her kitchen and dining room filled with family every Sunday for a true Italian dinner. Jean especially enjoyed meeting her paternal family members in Acuto, Italy in July 2002 and being blessed by St. Pope John Paul II during the trip.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and hospice workers of Great Lakes Hospice as well as the aides from Home Instead Senior Care for the loving and compassionate care and treatment afforded our mother during her last illness. Special thanks are given to Michael "Scotty" Currie for all of the love, care, and assistance that he provided to Nana over the years. Lastly the family would like to thank Rose Kloecker for administering the Holy Eucharist to Jean at her home once Jean was no longer able to attend services.

Friends will be received at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street, with the Rev.
