John D. Hosu

John D. Hosu, 78, of Erie, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. He was born January 24, 1945 in Erie, a son of the late John and Geraldine J. (Calabrese) Hosu.

John was a 1962 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He worked at Hammermill Paper Company (International Paper) and also at the Eastside YMCA for over 25 years.

He married Sylvia L. DiNicola on July 3, 1965 and they were wed for 44 years.

John enjoyed bowling, tennis, pinochle, and corvettes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia L. DiNicola Hosu and his son, Dr. Nicholas J. Hosu.

He is survived by his daughter, Karla J. Webb (Paul); five grandchildren, Alyx Hosu (Will), Megan and Nicholas Webb, and John (Jack) and Brynn Moylan; one great-grandson, Oliver Paul; sister-in-law, Kathryn DiNicola (Carol). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and two lifelong friends, Joe Bonaminio and Dr. Anthony Alleruzzo.

Friends are invited to call on Friday at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and may attend a Service there on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Paul Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be private in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
