John M. "Jay" Mariella

John M. "Jay" Mariella, 99, of Erie, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 2, 1917 in Erie, a son of the late Louis and Theresa Pati Mariella.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud." 1 Corinthians 13:4. This verse describes John "Jay" well. He is a husband, a father, a papa and friend. He is the type of man that was there without question. He loved his wife and his two sons beyond measure and lived to spend time with his grand-daughters. He spoke words of love, but more than that his actions showed just how unconditional his love and support was. When he got to a point when his actions were few it was his eyes that said I love you. Forever in our hearts he will be. He would want us to move forward remembering this is what is important; faith, hope and love.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Calogera "Lena" Caravaglia Mariella, four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his two sons, John A. Mariella of Erie and Louis M. Mariella (Dee) of Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Sarah Mariella, Aimee Mariella and Domenica Petro Mariella all of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11 a.m. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
