Julie Bartone Spinelli

Julie M. Spinelli, age 101, passed away from an extended illness and entered the Gates of Heaven on Sunday, December 17, 2023. She was born on June 27, 1922 in Conneaut, Ohio, a daughter of the late Felix and Mary Bartone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Spinelli (Al); a brother, Louis (Lou) Bartone; and three sisters, Antonette (Dee) Ferrio, Margaret Licate, and Clara Gentile.

Julie graduated from Conneaut High School and worked at various manufacturing and production jobs in Ohio. She moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, met and married Al Spinelli, and began their family after World War II. She later worked and retired from Tech Memorial High School. Al and Julie were married for 65 beautiful and loving years. They were the rocks upon which their family was built through laughter and love.

Julie became a life-long Erie resident and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Her life revolved around her family and spending time with them on vacations and during the holidays. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play baseball, football, hockey, and soccer. She was a great cook who loved traveling, vegetable gardening, canning vegetables, and watching weekend football. But most of all, she took care of her family. She was a wonderful woman with a great heart who typically offered a home-cooked Italian meal, a cup of coffee, cookies, and heartfelt conversation. Julie will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Julie is survived by her four children, Mike Spinelli (wife, Barb) of Cincinnati, Paul Spinelli (wife, Melissa) of San Diego, Sheilah Bruno (husband, Ernie) of Erie, and Michelle McCallion (husband, Joe) of Union City; six grandchildren, Jerry Bruno (wife, Jennifer), Nick Spinelli (Sally Sparks), Christina Fields (husband, Jay), Tara Gonzalez (husband, Eric), Daniel McCallion, and Matthew McCallion (Christy Altland); six great-grandchildren, Julianna and Jessica Bruno, Easton and Graham Gonzalez, Delia Sparks, Leira Hoskins; and many nieces and nephews.

The Spinelli family would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to the wonderful staff and administrators of the Home Instead Senior Care of Erie as well as Interim Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion for our dear Mother.

Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing at John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry Street in Erie on Wednesday, December 27, from 2 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 5 p.m. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
