Laurie Ann Comi Chintalapalli, 75, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Saint Vincent Hospital. She was born October 3, 1950, in Erie, a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Santia) Comi.
Laurie had a deep love for learning. She was a proud graduate of Villa Maria Academy Class of 1968 and continued her pursuit of knowledge by initially following her passion for language and studying Spanish at Gannon University. She ultimately earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from Saint Vincent School of Nursing. Her professional journey began at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland. Upon her return to Erie, she was employed at Metro Health Center, Hamot Hospital, and Lakeshore Community Services, until her well-deserved retirement in 2015.
In her personal life, Laurie found joy in the simple pleasures, sewing, preparing a meal for family, and savoring a good cup of coffee with a friend. She was always quick to throw out a quip. Her sense of humor served her well, as she was a diehard fan of Cleveland baseball and football throughout her life.
Most importantly, Laurie was a strong and loving mother, who dedicated herself to raising her two children as a single parent. She was fiercely proud of her Italian heritage and culture, but she also embraced the culture of India to make sure that her children grew up steeped in both. Deeply committed to family, she adored her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Freiberg and her stepmother, Cecilia "Sally" Comi.
She is survived by her daughter, Preeya Montroy (Dennis); son, Kyle Chintalapalli (Dana Bohince); sister, Carol Ferragine (Robert); brother, Joseph Comi (Barbara); stepbrother, Carl "Butch" Danowski; stepsister, Carol Juniewicz; and four grandchildren, Cecilia, Noah, Elijah, and Ezra Montroy. She is also survived by her many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 10th, at Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service there at 6:30 p.m. Inurnment will be private at Luther Memorial Church.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Scholarship Fund at Luther Memorial Academy at 220 West 11th Street, Erie, PA 16501, so that other families may be able to benefit from the same generosity that was extended to Laurie and her children.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at BAYADA Nursing and Home Health Care for the love, care, and compassion they provided to Laurie over the past several years and to the doctors, nurses, aides, and orderlies at Saint Vincent Hospital over the last month.
