Mark F. Haller

Mark F. Haller, age 54, of Erie, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 8, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. He was born January 29, 1959 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of Fred A. Haller of Pittsburgh and the late Patricia Pelissier Haller.

Mark was an active member of UE Local 506 United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America and a member of Occupy Erie.

He was a man of great stature, passion, intelligence, and fortitude. An ardent advocate for social justice, he served his community, Union brotherhood, and political activists with vigor; motivating others to join his cause with determination and courage. His passion was contagious. As a photo journalist, he challenged others to see the big picture; using different lenses to encourage new points of view. A gentle giant, he mixed love, sincerity, and compassion, with valor. He was a devoted father and mentor to his son, as well as many others.

In addition to his father he is survived by his fiancée, Suzanne Boone of Erie; son, Christopher D. Haller of Erie; four daughters, Alysa Boone of Erie, Rhonda Hamilton, Sherri Hupp and Franki Hupp all of West Virginia; five brothers, Michael Haller of Atlanta, GA, Joseph Haller of Williston, VT, Patrick Haller of Westford, VT, Thomas Haller of Pittsburgh, PA and Frederick Haller, Jr. of Davidsonville, MD and one sister, Kathleen Haller Messimer of Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
