Melton J. Thigpen

Melton J. Thigpen, 72, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. He was born on November 11, 1953 in Erie, Pa, a son of the late Albert and Eular Mae (Billups) Thigpen.

Respected Friend, All American Dad, Grandmaster Martial Artist, Man of Iron, & A Heart of Gold. Protector of the children and dad to ones that weren't his own. He was bubbly and outgoing and would speak to everyone he saw. He wouldn't hesitate to help someone in need if he could. His philosophies will be remembered and practiced by the students he taught over the years. He will be loved, missed, and cherished in our hearts forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Douglas Thigpen and Albert Thigpen Jr.

He is survived by his three sons, Melton Thigpen, James Thigpen, and David Coleman (Crystal); grandchildren, Karman Rivera, Mehki Thigpen, Serena Thigpen, Le'Ana Thigpen, and Richard Coleman; his sister, Tina Thigpen; and his nieces, Aliyya Horton Shawnta Pulliam, Auntiana London and Nephew Javon Thigpen.

Funeral arrangements are private and being handled by the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie PA 16502. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of the Funeral Home.
