Michael A. DiPanfilo, 91, of Erie, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 22, 1926 in Erie, a son of the late Pasquale and Vallie Amatangelo DiPanfilo.

Michael proudly served in the United State Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He worked at Erie Enameling for 25 years and then for the Erie School District; where he began as a bus driver and retired as a maintenance supervisor.

Michael believed his most important accomplishment throughout his life was his family. He never missed a family celebration and considered himself blessed because of them.

Michael was involved in numerous civic and church organizations throughout his entire life and was known for his wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother; Robert DiPanfilo; two sisters, Mary DiPanfilo and Catherine Phelps; brother-in-law; Donald Phelps; and great-granddaughter, Megan Tirak.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Laura E. Sullivan DiPanfilo; a daughter, Mary Sandra Grychowski (Richard); son, Michael A. DiPanfilo (Colette); brother, Henry DiPanfilo (Carol); grandchildren, Christopher Grychowski (Lynn), Heather Tirak (Greg), Richard Grychowski (Christine), Michelle Bruschi (Christopher), Laurie Bowers (Michael), Antoni Grychowski, and Nicole Penpek (Nicholas); and great-grandchildren, Emily, Libby, Abigail, Anna, Natalie, Michael, Andrew, Alyssa, Grace, Scott, Christopher and Henry all of Erie. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Kitty DiPanfilo and many nieces, nephews and cousins (cuz).

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1626 West 26th Street, at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
