Ronald Joseph Bonaminio

Ronald Joseph Bonaminio went home to our Lord suddenly and unexpectedly on the evening of Sunday, October 24, 2021. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 14, 1939 to Nicholas and Jeanne Bonaminio (Kelly).

He attended Cathedral Prep and graduated from East High School in 1957. After briefly serving in the United States Army Reserves, he attended Edinboro College and Gannon University. He began his career at Lord Corporation in 1959, eventually retiring after 43 years in 2002. Although Ron served in a variety of capacities, his proudest work was with the former Hughson Chemicals Division. As a paint, coatings and adhesives specialist, Ron helped develop epoxies used on NASA's space shuttles, Pontiac vehicles, sealants used on floors found in many NASCAR garages, and myriad other projects. Later in his career, he consulted on concrete and signage jobs.

For many years, Ron was an avid road runner and was an active member of the Erie Runners Club and competed in multiple Highmark Quad Games. He had a keen interest in cars and trains and enjoyed working on many projects around his home. He also enjoyed reading, particularly espionage, and international thrillers. David Baldacci was a favorite author. Ron took great pride in his children's accomplishments, especially their academic achievements and successful careers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Mary, brother Paul, and daughter Anita.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Bonaminio of Providence, Rhode Island and his son, Matthew Bonaminio (Allison) of Charlotte, North Carolina, his sisters Mary Ann Ambrosetti (Quinto), of Erie, Kathleen Stravato, of Jamestown, NY, Janice Watson (Jack), of Erie, Eileen Hubbard (Alan) of The Woodlands, TX, and brother Tom Nemenz (Dee) of Gettysburg, PA. He also leaves behind extended family and friends.

There will be a private viewing and service for family on the evening of Thursday, October 28, 2021. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, October 29, 2021, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 5711 West Lake Road, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Children's Hospital. The John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, is in charge of arrangements.
