Salvatore "Sal" Orlando, 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge. He was born September 15, 1942 in Montenero Val Cocchiara, Italy, a son of the late Pietro and Colomba (Zuchegna) Orlando.
In 1958 Sal immigrated to the United States from Italy, settling in Erie with his family. He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Class of 1964. After graduation he served in the United States Army.
Sal was a machinist at GE for 30 years, retiring in 2000 and also worked as an Erie County Deputy Sheriff for many years.
Sal enjoyed bowling, driving his classic cars, and hanging out with his brothers at camp. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Filomena Orlando and four brothers, John, Thomas, Joe, and Nicola "Nick" Orlando.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary J. Stasiewski Orlando; one daughter, Apryl Logvina (Vlad); son, Thomas J. Orlando; two brothers, Tony Orlando (Barbara) and Mario Orlando (Lena); two sisters-in-law, Carmella Orlando and Linda Orlando; and seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Elijah, Mya, Dominick, Onnaleigh, Xavier, and Lyla. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services and entombment in Calvary Cemetery will be private. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
