Samuel S. Travis, age 83, of Erie, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born April 13, 1929 in Coalton, West Virginia, a son of the late Anthony and Katy Angelo Travise. He lived in Erie most of his life. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Samuel was the owner and operator of Sam Travis Tire and Service for 57 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed racquetball, golf, boating, skiing, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, gardening, karaoke, and playing pool and cards.

In addition his parents he was preceded in death his son, Samuel L. Travis, a grandson, Graham M. Tozer and two sisters, Elsie Coon and Francis Lindsey.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Harroun Travis of Erie; three daughters, Ranee D. Tozer of Milwaukee, WI, Gina M. Mountin and husband Eric of Tallahassee, FL and Yvonne E. Lewis and husband Michael of Erie; one brother, Frank E. Travise and wife Olga of Erie; two sisters, Louise Anderson of Erie and Jeanette Formaini of Atlanta, GA , and six grandchildren, Ian, Samantha, Alex, Mackenzie, Samuel and Emylee. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at Saint George RC Church, 5145 Peach Street, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville, 824 Children's Way, Jacksonville, FL 32207 or to Blended Spirits Ranch, 7401 McCray Rd., Fairview, PA 16415.
