Thomas L. Thompson

Thomas L. "Tom" Thompson, of Erie passed away on Monday, July 24th, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. He was born June 5, 1938 in Jerome, PA, a son of the late Eugene and Ruth Pyle Thompson.

Tom had a heart of gold, was kind and quiet and loved his family, always putting their needs before his own. He could turn almost anything used or broken into something like new.

Tom graduated from Academy High School class of 1957 and served in the United States Army.

He worked hard as a driver for Jones Motor, PIE and the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home, retiring in 2006.

Tom was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church, the Teamsters local #397, The Erie Elks Lodge #67 and the Glenwood YMCA, especially enjoying the "coffee club".

He married the love of his life, Patricia (Covatto) Thompson on July 18th, 1964, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and were married for 59 years, raising two children together. Their life together was filled with love, laughter and a never-give-up attitude through all its ups and downs.

He grew the best tomatoes and the tallest sunflowers. He loved to golf with his wife and friends. And he was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, always loyal no matter what the outcome. There wasn't an old movie he hadn't seen many times, and he loved the beach, spending most summer Sundays there as he raised his children.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Thompson, a daughter, Beth Ann Meahl (Paul) of Cranberry Twp., Pa. and son, Timothy Scott Thompson (Amy) of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Luke and Victoria Meahl, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Ernie Thompson and his brother-in-law and best friend, Tony Covatto.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, August 4th at Saint Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
