Valerie L. Hayes

Valerie L. (Chludzinski) Hayes, 66, of Erie, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness. She was born December 19, 1959 in Erie, a daughter of the late Raymond and Alice (Wronek) Chludzinski.

Valerie was a graduate of Tech Memorial High School, Class of 1978. She worked at Independence Court for over 30 years, until her retirement.

Valerie was a woman of deep faith, and her daily prayers for her family were a testament to the love she held in her heart. Her devotion to her family and cherished traditions illuminated her life, with Christmas being her favorite holiday. Valerie embraced the spirit of the season wholeheartedly, creating joyous memories that would be treasured for years to come. Her love for culinary artistry was evident in her unwavering devotion to the Food Network.

Valerie's greatest joy became her twin grandsons born seven years ago. To them, she was not just a grandmother but a loving and devoted "Nana," whose world revolved around them. Her warmth and dedication will forever be etched in the hearts of her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Kara Hayes (Pennie Nichols); son, Aaron Hayes (Carrie); twin grandsons, Sidney and James Hayes; her longtime partner, Pat Lapinsky; and her former husband and dear friend, Richard Hayes. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank Chludzinski (Tina) and Tony Chludzinski and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 24th, at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, September 25th, at Saint Luke Church, 421 East 38th Street, at 10:00 a.m.
